The staff was friendly. The food was good. The meetings were great. However, their houses have bed bugs and it makes night time a nightmare for those men. Also, they are not monitored very well and there are some who do drugs right there on the back porch of the sober houses. Its hard for anyone to stay clean when others are doing drugs or drinking right there in the facility. The men are encouraged to report those people but most of them grew up on the streets believing that being a rat is the worst thing you can be. I believe the counselors could be a bit more supportive and sensitive to the feelings of the men there. My fiance's counselor straight up told him he didn't see a lot of progress and was very critical. Theses men already are wounded emotionally and they need compassion. There are softer ways to deliver criticism and telling someone they aren't progressing doesn't encourage them to do better. It makes them want to give up. My fiance came out of that facility worse than he was before he went in.
